Artist Statement

My artistic journey explores the symbiotic relationship between nature and humanity through wearable sculpture pieces. Rooted in the fusion of science fiction and art, my work delves into the concept of coexistence, proposing a re-imagining of alternate realities where humans and nature are intricately connected.

Drawing inspiration from my academic background in both traditional jewelry design, and traditional blacksmithing, I weave narratives that envision a world where the boundaries between human and nature blur. Through my wearable sculptures, I depict the merging of the human body with mycorrhizal fungus, symbolizing an evolutionary leap towards a deeper connection with our environment.

Central to my exploration is the concept of magic and wonder. While I am drawn to the fantastical, I strive to ground my creations in scientific plausibility, exploring the intersection of imagination and reality. In doing so, I aim to challenge perceptions and inspire contemplation about the wonders of our natural world.

My artwork reflects a profound reverence for the interconnectedness of all living beings. By highlighting the symbiotic relationship between humans and the natural world, I seek to foster a deeper appreciation for our environment and our place within it. Through storytelling and symbolism, I invite viewers to contemplate the potential of humanity's evolution and the transformative power of our connection to nature. As Donna Haraway eloquently stated, β€œThe boundary between science fiction and social reality is an optical illusion.” In my art, I endeavor to blur this boundary, inviting audiences to imagine new possibilities for the future of our planet and ourselves.
